the laundry room: new doors!

october
this picture is a reminder of the first time we saw the laundry room. a lot has happened since then, especially in the last couple of weeks. we have moved the laundry room and are turning this room into an extension of the kitchen slash mudroom.
wednesday: the before
wednesday: the after!!!
this week we put the new french doors in the former laundry room.
we found these at the Habitat ReStore. we were concerned they might be a little too big for the room....
but no regrets! they look great!

(me in my cru coffee and wine bar hoodie: a little beaufort coffee shop love!)
i do a little work from time to time...
i was standing in the kitchen when i shot this.
and we are done for the night!

dining room: the progression

this weekend, we finally and somewhat officially, reclaimed another room in our home - the dining room. for now, it will serve as our living room. but i wanted to remind you of the phases of this project.
these pictures are from the first day in our new house waaaaaaay back in october!

and then there was this part: the demolition back in november
 there was the demolished

the rebuild!

painting!

making it a home!!!
we still have to hang the trim, but for right now, that can wait!
the laundry is now the laundry room, and the den is the den. yay!

while we're at it...

since we are now officially tearing up the floor in the new master (former dining),
might as well redo the master bathroom too!

the library/dining room

the room once known as the library will become the dining room.
but, until we get the house more situated, the "dining room" is going to become our den. last week i primed our new drywall. now we are ready to paint!
as you know, the pine floors (mostly heart pine!) in the house need to be redone. we decided to go ahead and redo the floors in the future dining room:
dining room: we rented a sander from lowes
this lowes sander is a pain in the rear end. the sandpaper only lasts like 5 seconds.
ugh, the price we pay for gorgeous floors!

sanding the floor
now that the floor is all sanded, its time to stain.
we chose rustoleum kona.

(yo dude. don't judge me on my method!)
first coat
hmmmm....looks a little funky! but i keep going anyway.
(will this be a problem later? you betcha!)
next picture is so you can see the progression:
before sanding right half of picture
after sanding bottom left
first "attempt" at staining left middle

it is a little uneven

but not too bad right?
uh, yeah....we're going to have to redo that. apparently we didn't take off all of the previous polyurethane. hehe. OOPS!

laundry room day 2

getting ready for the tile!
we decided to use tile in the laundry room. we came across a great deal at the habitat restore and found several cases of tile. or we may use some tile leftover from other homes we have rehabbed. which ever we decide to use, we know we need a sturdy sub floor! nick spent a long time painstakingly leveling a previously very un-level floor. he then put down a layer of heavy duty sub floor. the floor already has never felt so sturdy. go nick! now, for the tile backer board.

(sorry for the not so stellar picture, i took it this morning after we had dragged the refrigerator into the room friday night and then back out again today).
you may remember that when we replaced the roof on the house we also raised the roof in this room to be as tall as the rest of the house. with the room empty, we  decided now would also be a good idea to go ahead and rip out that low ceiling. here are some pictures of the roof lines, before and after:

and this is the laundry room as it was, in all its glory!
