roof before. broken stuff. what a mess. |
today has been crazy! its been loud and chaotic for sure. i didn't know how nerve wracking this part would be. partly because of the noise, partly because of the fear of "what lies beneath".
after the threat of rain passed(30% early), we thought we could breathe a sigh of relief. nope, that's when the wind started in. one good gust and insulation fell like snow all over our yard. right in the middle of the deconstruction, the crew had to scramble to get plywood laid down and a tarp put over the part of the roof they knew they wouldn't get to today. crisis averted, problem solved. good job guys!

there was a moment of true fear when it looked as if one of our walls was separating from the house (obviously not new damage). oh well, thank goodness we have a contractor here right now. no biggie. (????)
quitting time today |
making progress |
hope our neighbors don't hate us |
the rest of the roof was covered in a huge tarp for the night.
now...of course the wind, which had died, kicked back up long after everyone left.
i am quite sure the crew will be amused by all of nick and i's tie downs and anchors. but it is very important to us to make sure not to inconvenience our neighbors, if we can. oh, and it was also really loud. the wind was seriously RIPPING through the hills. we are finally getting to sleep soon and the house is staying relatively warm, considering we are going topless in 20 degree weather.
and just for fun...
funny things that go bump, or, er, crash in the middle of the day.

i call this picture "oopsie" |
apparently we got a head start on the interior demolition. somewhere in the middle of all this i heard a crash in the other room (future dining room). i ran to find this.
remember the pictures of what we found under the drop ceiling? this spot was one of the most badly damaged spots in the plaster. this was also the area with the broken joists at the corners of the roof.
anyhooo..that is a foot in our new (temporary) skylight.
nice kicks man!
stayed tuned! tomorrow will be just as fun, i am sure.
This is so exciting for me to read! I can't imaging what it must be like for you guys to live!!
