thank you

in this process of uncovering things, we removed some old planter boxes from the front porch. after nick peeled back the out layer of tin metal, this is what we found, the initials of the former home owners, the malcavane's. they moved into the house around 1945. mr mulcavane passed a few years back and mrs muclavane has continued to live here, until this past summer. its hard to imagine living in a home so long. its heart breaking to think of the memories left behind.
i need to take moment to say :
we are truly honored to be the next people to love this house.
thank you mr and mrs muclavane. i hope we do it justice...

demolition: the uncovering begins...

of course, i have shown you all the lovely parts of buying a house. but this house is still a major renovation!  immediately, we are having the roof replaced. due to years of a leaky roof, we knew the ceiling and walls had damaged plaster.
aahhhhh yes. it wouldn't pretty forever. we knew what was hiding behind those drop ceiling and paneled walls would be a big ugly mess. here's your chance to see what we are finding! i mean if there wasn't any drama, why would you read this right? ( i have a feeling that you might here that statement a lot in the future!)
today:
the dining room

removal of drop ceiling
old timey stud finder!!!
oh yes! water damaged plaster celing. this does, thankfully, appear to the worst!
going to town
nick running from the falling ceiling. haha. i made that part up.
i was really just trying to take a picture of the ceiling once it was down.

all in all it doesn't seem tooooooooo bad. we removed the drop ceiling completely. and then removed the many pieces of wiring that hung the ceiling.  we also removed all the the light fixtures. some will i will go ahead and say- spoiler alert - so far, this room is definately the worst. which, is bad, but not as bad as it could've been. we're feeling pretty good about it.  in fact, we thought it was actually kind of fun!

next post: the celing in the den and the foyer.
thanks for reading!

family portrait

our first family portrait on our first morning waking up on maxwell!
we thought we had a futon in storage in asheville. we didn't. we spent the night on the floor. the dogs were very pleased. we, however, were not... HA!

interior tour

welcome to our new home!
located just outside of downtown asheville, the house is just a few short steps from greenlife and a few more steps from one of asheville's best vegetarian restaurants, rosetta's and one of its most well known dive bars, broadways.
this is a tour of our new home. it has amazing light and character! we just love it! BUT do not be mislead, the next photos you will see are what was hiding behind the drop ceilings and the paneling (we were prepared, but still, YIKES!)
i did the world's smallest video because it uploaded much faster...sorry!
(so if you try to view it in full screen mode, its looks really horrible and grainy)
here goes:
